Yield Makes 6 cups

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup sugar
6 sprigs tarragon, plus more for garnish
2 cups fresh-squeezed lemon juice, about 10-12 lemons
Ice
12 ounces gin, optional

Steps:

  • Combine the sugar with 1 cup water and 6 sprigs tarragon in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
  • In a large pitcher, combine lemon juice, tarragon-sugar syrup, and 3 cups of cold water. Fill pitcher with ice until ready to serve.
  • To serve, fill glasses with ice. Pour a shot of gin over the ice, if using. Fill with lemonade and garnish with a tarragon sprig.

Tips:

  • Choose the right lemons: Use fresh, ripe lemons with a vibrant yellow color. Avoid lemons that are dull or have blemishes.
  • Zest the lemons finely: Use a microplane zester or a fine grater to zest the lemons. This will help release the aromatic oils from the zest and infuse them into the lemonade.
  • Use filtered or spring water: Filtered or spring water will give you the best-tasting lemonade. Tap water can sometimes have a chlorine taste that can interfere with the flavor of the lemonade.
  • Adjust the sweetness to your preference: The amount of sugar or honey you add to the lemonade is up to you. Start with a small amount and add more to taste.
  • Chill the lemonade before serving: Chilled lemonade is more refreshing and flavorful. You can chill the lemonade in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving, or you can make it ahead of time and chill it overnight.
  • Garnish the lemonade with fresh herbs or fruit: Fresh herbs like mint or basil, or slices of fruit like lemons or strawberries, can add a pop of color and flavor to your lemonade.

Conclusion:

Tarragon lemonade is a refreshing and flavorful twist on the classic lemonade recipe. With its unique herbal flavor, tarragon lemonade is a perfect drink to enjoy on a hot summer day. It's also a great way to use up fresh tarragon from your garden. Whether you're looking for a simple and refreshing drink or a more complex and flavorful beverage, tarragon lemonade is sure to please. So next time you're looking for something to quench your thirst, give tarragon lemonade a try!
