TOASTED BUTTER PECANS

This recipe comes from the cookbook that accompanied my first microwave, in 1974. These salty, crunchy pecans are good for snacking. They also go well with drinks. You may want to adjust the amount of seasoned salt to your taste, particularly if you use salted butter.

TOASTED BUTTER PECANS

Categories     Nuts

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 Tbsp butter melted
1 tsp salt
16 oz bag, pecan halves
~OR~
***ADJUSTED AMOUNTS FOR A 12 OUNCE BAG OF PECAN HALVES***
only 3 tablespoons of butter, and 3/4 teaspoon of salt

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 320 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • 2. Melt butter, and stir in the salt. Place the pecans in a bowl. Pour the butter mixture over the pecans and toss lightly.
  • 3. Place the buttered pecans on the baking sheet and bake for 25 minutes. Stirring half way through. Remove from the oven and cool.
  • 4. Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Choose the right pecans: Look for fresh, plump pecans that are free of blemishes. Avoid any pecans that are cracked or have a dark, oily appearance.
  • Toast the pecans: Toasting the pecans brings out their flavor and makes them more fragrant. You can toast them in a pan over medium heat, in the oven, or in the microwave.
  • Use unsalted butter: Unsalted butter allows you to control the amount of salt in the recipe. If you use salted butter, be sure to omit the additional salt.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When toasting the pecans, be sure to spread them out in a single layer so that they toast evenly.
  • Watch the butter carefully: When browning the butter, be sure to watch it closely so that it doesn't burn. Once the butter starts to turn golden brown, remove it from the heat immediately.
  • Add the pecans at the end: Once the butter is browned, add the pecans and stir to coat them. Be careful not to overcook the pecans, or they will become tough.
  • Season to taste: Once the pecans are toasted, season them with salt and pepper to taste.

Conclusion:

Toasted butter pecans are a delicious and versatile snack or topping. They can be enjoyed on their own, added to salads, or used as a topping for desserts. They are also a great gift idea for friends and family. With just a few simple ingredients, you can make your own toasted butter pecans at home in just a few minutes. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy snack, give toasted butter pecans a try. You won't be disappointed!
