Categories     Chocolate

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
saltines
chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Cover bottom of 9 x 13 dish with saltines. Bring butter and sugar to a rolling boil (about five minutes). Pour over saltines. Top with chocolate chips. Alternatively, melt choc. chips in bowl in microwave. And pour over toffee mix.

Tips:

  • To ensure the toffee mixture reaches the correct temperature quickly and accurately, use a candy thermometer.
  • Be patient while stirring the toffee mixture. It will take several minutes to thicken and turn a deep amber color.
  • If you don't have a candy thermometer, you can use the cold water test to check if the toffee is ready. Drop a small amount of the mixture into a bowl of cold water. If it forms a hard ball, the toffee is ready.
  • Make sure the butter and sugar are at room temperature before creaming them together. This will help the mixture become light and fluffy.
  • Don't overmix the cookie dough. Overmixing can make the cookies tough.
  • Chill the cookie dough for at least 30 minutes before baking. This will help the cookies hold their shape in the oven.
  • Bake the cookies until they are just set. Overbaking can make them dry and crumbly.
  • Let the cookies cool completely before frosting them. This will help prevent the frosting from melting.
  • If you don't have time to make the frosting, you can simply sprinkle the cooled cookies with powdered sugar.

Conclusion:

Toffee squares are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that are perfect for any occasion. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a batch of these classic cookies that are sure to be a hit. So next time you're looking for a sweet treat, give toffee squares a try.
