Number Of Ingredients 12

1 1/2 lbs ground venison
1 medium onion, chopped
1 (16 ounce) can pork and beans, undrained
1 (16 ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 (15 1/2 ounce) can great northern beans, rinsed and drained
1 cup ketchup
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
6 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
2 tablespoons white vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground mustard

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook venison and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain.
  • Stir in remaining ingredients.
  • Transfer to a 2-qt. baking dish.
  • Cover and bake at 350° for 35-40 minutes or until heated through.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of venison. For this recipe, a lean cut like venison loin or tenderloin is best. Avoid using a fatty cut like venison shoulder or neck, as these will result in a greasy dish.
  • Soak the beans overnight. This will help to soften them and reduce the cooking time. If you don't have time to soak the beans overnight, you can quick-soak them by boiling them for 1 minute, then removing them from the heat and letting them sit for 1 hour.
  • Brown the venison before adding it to the slow cooker. This will help to develop its flavor and prevent it from becoming tough.
  • Use a variety of beans. This will add flavor and texture to the dish. Some good options include black beans, kidney beans, and pinto beans.
  • Add plenty of spices. This will help to enhance the flavor of the venison and beans. Some good options include chili powder, cumin, and paprika.
  • Let the dish simmer for at least 4 hours. This will allow the flavors to meld and the meat to become tender.
  • Serve with your favorite toppings. Some good options include sour cream, shredded cheese, and chopped cilantro.

Conclusion:

This venison and beans recipe is a delicious and easy way to enjoy this lean and flavorful meat. With its tender venison, flavorful beans, and rich spices, this dish is sure to be a hit with your family and friends. So next time you're looking for a hearty and satisfying meal, give this recipe a try.
