Tips:

  • Use active dry yeast that is not expired. Old yeast may not activate properly and result in dense or flat rolls.
  • Proof the yeast in warm water (105-115°F) with a pinch of sugar. This helps to activate the yeast and ensure that it is working properly.
  • Use a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook to knead the dough. This will save you time and effort, and it will help to develop the gluten in the dough, resulting in a more chewy roll.
  • Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size. This will give the yeast time to ferment and produce carbon dioxide, which will create the air pockets in the rolls.
  • Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece of dough into a ball and place them in a greased 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • Let the rolls rise again in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until they have doubled in size.
  • Bake the rolls in a preheated oven at 375°F for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
  • Brush the rolls with melted butter as soon as they come out of the oven. This will help to keep them moist and flavorful.

Conclusion:

Yeast rolls are a delicious and versatile bread that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They are also a great way to use up leftover mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes. With a little planning and effort, you can easily make yeast rolls at home. So next time you're looking for a tasty and satisfying bread to serve your family and friends, give these yeast rolls a try.
