- In a large skillet, saute onions in butter until softened. Reduce heat to medium-low; cook, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes or until onions are golden brown. Add garlic; cook 1 minute longer., Meanwhile, sprinkle beef with salt and pepper. Lightly oil the grill rack., Grill steaks, covered, over medium heat or broil 4 in. from the heat for 5-7 minutes on each side or until meat reaches desired doneness (for medium-rare, a thermometer should read 135°; medium, 140°; medium-well, 145°). Cut into thin slices., Place bread on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 400° for 4-6 minutes or until lightly browned., Meanwhile, place the cream cheese, blue cheese, salt and pepper in a food processor; cover and process until blended. Spread each bread slice with 1 teaspoon cheese mixture; top with steak and onions.
