It is great as a side dish with anything; but when I was newly married and on a tight budget, I made it with a pound of bacon and doubled the beans for a main dish. 6 slice bacon
3/4 c onions, chopped
1/2 c green pepper, chopped
2 Tbsp flour
2 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/8 tsp dry mustard
16 oz can peeled tomatoes
1 can(s) green beans, french style

Steps:

  • 1. Cook bacon until crisp and remove to paper toweling. Save 3T fat in skillet.
  • 2. Add onion and green pepper and cook until tender. Blend in spices.
  • 3. Add tomatoes with juice. Cook and stir, breaking up tomatoes, until mixture thickens. Add green beans and heat through.
  • 4. Sprinkle with reserved bacon to serve.
