1 1/4 teaspoons salt
3/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 lb russet (baking) potatoes (about 4)

  • Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
  • *Available in the spice section of some supermakets.

I'm not sure what went wrong, but my gratin turned out dry and bland. I followed the recipe exactly, so I'm not sure what happened.

The juniper flavor in this gratin was a bit too strong for my taste. I think I would have preferred it with a milder herb, like thyme or rosemary.
