large potato, peeled and cut into 1/2 "- 1-inch cubes
1 lb penne pasta
2 large onions, peeled and sliced
4 tablespoons butter or 4 tablespoons oil
1 cup grated cheese (Gruyre, Appenzeller, Raclette, or something aged and a bit stinky)

  • Top with the remaining 1/3 of the penne-potatoes.
  • Pour the seasoned milk/cream evenly over the top.
  • Spread the browned onions on top.
  • Bake covered for 10-15 minutes until steaming hot and cheese is melted. Serve with warmed applesauce.

I followed the recipe exactly and my lplermagronen didn't turn out crispy at all. I'm not sure what I did wrong.

This recipe was a bit bland for my taste. I think I'll add some more spices next time.

I'm not sure what went wrong, but my lplermagronen turned out mushy. I think I might have added too much milk.

This dish is very similar to the Swiss dish called rösti. I think I prefer rösti, but this recipe is still very good.

I made a few changes to the recipe and it turned out great. I used sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes and I added some chopped carrots and celery.
