APPLE COBBLER

Apple Cobbler image

One of our classic recipes, refreshed! A little less sugar in both the filling and the topping highlights the tart apples. We prefer it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

AMAZING APPLE COBBLER

Amazing Apple Cobbler image

A friend of mine gave me this recipe several years ago after she brought this wonderful dish for a potluck. When I made it at home, my mother was so impressed, she called my aunt to tell her about the recipe. Well, we were surprised to learn that my aunt already had the recipe and has used it for years- she got it off of a bag of Martha White flour! The original recipe calls for 2 cups of sugar, but we like it best with 1 1/2 cups. This isn't as hard to make as it sounds....promise :-)

Time 1h15m

Yield 1 cobbler, 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/2 cup butter (or margarine)
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 cups water
1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1/3 cup milk
2 cups apples, peeled and finely chopped
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Place butter in 13x9-inch baking dish; place in oven to melt.
  • 2. In medium saucepan, combine sugar and water; heat until sugar dissolves, stirring frequently. Set aside.
  • 3. Place flour in medium bowl. With pastry blender or fork, cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add milk; stir with fork just until mixture begins to pull away from sides of bowl.
  • 4. On lightly floured surface, knead dough just until smooth. Roll out dough to 12x10x1/4-inch rectangle.
  • 5. In medium bowl, combine apples and cinnamon; stir to mix. Sprinkle apples evenly over dough.
  • 6. Beginning with long side, roll up jelly-roll fashion. Cut into 16 slices.
  • 7. Arrange slices in baking dish over melted butter. Pour sugar syrup carefully around and over rolls. (This looks like a lot of liquid, but crust will absorb it.).
  • 8. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 15 minutes before serving.

AWESOME APPLE CRISP

Awesome Apple Crisp image

I especially like this recipe as it makes a 9x13 pan as opposed to a 9x9, which I find handy when I have some extra mouths to feed. I first made this instead of my usual smaller version, at Christmas when invited to my sisters for dinner, she already had pumpkin pie, so she asked for an apple crisp, everyone really enjoyed it, and the next time we were invited for dinner, guess what they wanted me to bring? ( original recipe did not call for lemon juice, but my other version does,so I add it out of habit I guess!)

QUICK APPLE COBBLER

Quick Apple Cobbler image

This is a very easy recipe made with simple basics you usually have around the house. Perfect with after-dinner coffee or office pot-lucks. My sons also like to top it with whipped cream or ice cream. Change it up a bit by substituting a can of cherries or sliced peaches for a different variety of cobbler.

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Use a variety of apples with different textures and flavors, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn.
  • Peel and slice the apples evenly: This will help them cook evenly and prevent them from becoming mushy.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: Leave some space between the apples so they can cook evenly and develop a nice crust.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed pan: This will help distribute the heat evenly and prevent the cobbler from burning.
  • Bake the cobbler until the crust is golden brown and the apples are bubbling: This will ensure that the cobbler is cooked through.
  • Let the cobbler cool for a few minutes before serving: This will allow the juices to thicken and the crust to set.
