Time 1h5m

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 Angel Food Cake
1 teaspoon Vanilla
3 cups Whipping Cream
1 1/2 cups Powdered Sugar
3/4 cup Cocoa
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1 cup of Raspberries
optional: 1/3 cup toasted Almonds

Steps:

  • You can either make the angel food cake from a mix (you just add water), or purchase pre-made from a grocery store. A few notes on making angel food cake: you need to let it cool completely in the pan and you need to let it cool upside-down or on its side. My mother also told me not to use a silicone pan because the cake can't cool property in a silicone pan. Once the cake is completely cooled, remove it from the pan. Then using a serrated knife, cut the top off of the cake, starting from about 1 inch down from the top of the cake. See the photos and this is make much more sense. Then use the knife to cut out some of the inside of the cake. Next, make the frosting. Combine the whipping cream, sugar, cocoa, salt, and vanilla. Beat with a mixer until stiff. Fill the scooped out section of the cake with frosting and raspberries. Place the top back on the cake. Frost the cake! Top with toasted almonds with you like. Keep the cake chilled until you are ready to serve it.

ANGEL FOOD CAKE WITH YUMMY CHOCOLATE WHIPPED CREAM ICING

This frosting adds so much to a plain Angel Food Cake. I have had good luck with both purchased cakes, cakes from mixes, or cake from scratch (really too much work when the mix is just as good). You could also use this on other cakes but is perfect with the lightness of Angel Food.

Time 1h55m

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 cup cake flour
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
15 large egg whites, at room temperature
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 1/2 cups plus 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, sifted 3 times
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 cups powdered sugar
2 sticks (1 cup) salted butter, softened
1/4 cup heavy cream
Yellow food coloring

Steps:

  • For the angel food cake: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Combine the cake flour and salt in a medium bowl and sift together 5 times. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, with an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, beat the egg whites until frothy (lots of bubbles but still liquid and loose). Add the cream of tartar and beat on high until stiff, 4 to 5 minutes. With the mixer on medium low, slowly sprinkle in the sifted granulated sugar. Fold in the sifted flour mixture gently until it's all combined. Sprinkle the vanilla into the bowl and fold gently.
  • Spoon the batter into an angel food or tube pan (preferably with cooling legs)--make sure there's no grease or butter in there! Smooth the top and bake until a wooden skewer stuck all the way to the bottom comes out clean, 35 to 45 minutes. (Don't open the oven while it's baking!)
  • Carefully remove the cake from the oven and immediately invert it onto its cooling legs (see Cook's Note). Let the cake cool completely while upside-down.
  • For the frosting: Beat the powdered sugar, butter and cream in a large bowl with an electric mixer until very light and fluffy. Add a few drops of yellow food coloring as desired.
  • Carefully remove the cake from the pan and transfer it to a cake plate upside-down, so that the end that was stuck to the bottom of the pan is now facing up. Frost the cake all over.

NO-BAKE STRAWBERRY ANGEL FOOD CAKE WITH WHIPPED CREAM

No-Bake Strawberry Angel Food Cake with Whipped Cream image

Provided by Natalie Clark

Categories     Fruit

Time 4h15m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 13-ounce angel food cake (size may vary from store to store)
1 6-ounce box strawberry Jell-o mix
2 cups water, boiled
1 container Cool Whip
1 16-ounce container frozen strawberries in sugar (or 21 oz strawberry pie filling)

Steps:

  • First, let the strawberries and Cool Whip rest on the counter. The strawberries will mix with the Jell-o better if they're not rock hard, and the Cool Whip will incorporate better if it's a little soft.
  • Slice the angel food cake into 1/2 to 1-inch pieces using a serrated knife, and spread half of the angel food cake pieces on the bottom of the 9×13 inch dish. (Or a fun glass dish like a trifle bowl.)
  • Bring two cups of water to a boil. In a large mixing bowl, combine the water and Jell-o powder. Stir until fully combined.
  • Then, add the frozen strawberries and stir, breaking up the chunks until they have melted. Fold the Cool Whip a few dollops at a time into the strawberry mixture, stirring gently to combine without deflating the dessert. Again, you can leave it a little less than uniformly combined, but you want it well-mixed.
  • Spread half the mixture over the cake. Add the remaining cake, then cover with the remaining mix. Spread to ensure the cake is fully covered.
  • Alternatively, you can combine all the cake and mix in a large bowl. You may prefer this method if you're serving the dessert in a trifle or glass bowl.
  • Chill in the fridge four hours or overnight. If the cake feels wet or jiggles, it's not set.
  • To glam it up, you can cover the chilled cake with Cool Whip, or garnish or decorate the top with sliced strawberries.

Tips for Making Angel Food Cake with Yummy Chocolate Whipped Cream Icing:

  • Measure your ingredients accurately. Angel food cake is a delicate cake that relies on precise measurements, so be sure to use a kitchen scale to weigh your ingredients, if possible. Measuring cups can vary in accuracy, so weighing your ingredients is the best way to ensure that you are using the correct amounts.
  • Use fresh egg whites. Old egg whites will not whip up as well as fresh egg whites, so be sure to use the freshest eggs you can find. You can also use egg white powder if you don't have fresh egg whites on hand. Just be sure to follow the package directions for how to reconstitute the egg white powder.
  • Whip the egg whites gradually. Start whipping the egg whites on low speed and gradually increase the speed to high. This will help to prevent the egg whites from becoming overbeaten, which can make the cake tough.
  • Fold the egg whites into the batter gently. Once the egg whites are stiff and glossy, fold them into the batter gently. Be careful not to overmix the batter, as this will also make the cake tough.
  • Bake the cake in a tube pan. Angel food cake is traditionally baked in a tube pan, which allows the cake to rise evenly. You can also use a bundt pan, but the cake may not rise as high.
  • Cool the cake upside down. After the cake is finished baking, invert it onto a wire rack to cool. This will help to prevent the cake from sinking in the middle.
  • Make the chocolate whipped cream icing while the cake is cooling. This will give the icing time to chill and stiffen before you frost the cake.
  • Frost the cake when it is completely cool. Once the cake is completely cool, you can frost it with the chocolate whipped cream icing. Be sure to spread the icing evenly over the top and sides of the cake.

Conclusion:

Angel food cake is a light and fluffy cake that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be dressed up or down, depending on your preferences. With its delicate flavor and fluffy texture, angel food cake is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
