APPLESAUCE CAKE IN A JAR

Applesauce Cake in a Jar image

These make lovely gifts, and the size can be varied (I've made 1/2 pint and pint jars with equal success.) These will keep in the cupboard for up to one year (theoretically!) Depending on the size on your jars, you can either bake them in muffin tins, or use crumpled aluminum foil on a baking sheet to keep them from sliding. Correction: Thanks to the review, I'm redacting the "storing in cupboard" portion of the note. These should be stored in the freezer or consumed immediately.

APPLESAUCE CAKE IN JARS

Applesauce Cake in Jars image

Recipes for Cakes Baked In Jars Ever baked cakes in canning jars? It's neat! ANY quick bread-type cake can be baked in canning jars. Lighter cakes tend to fall once the jar seals. I usually bake one jar first -- you have to know how high the batter rises. I usually fill ONE jar 1/2 full then bake it to see how high it rises, then go from there. You don't want the cake to come out of the top of the jar, only to within 1/4 to 1/2 inch from the lip of the jar. Write it down on your recipe (how far you filled the jars)! Once you've established how high the cake rises, you can go from there. The first time around is a bit tricky because you won't know how many jars you'll need. APPLESAUCE COOKIES IN A JAR

Applesauce Cookies in a Jar image

These can be iced or not. I include a small tube of icing tied to jar.

Provided by Stormy Stewart @karlyn255

Categories     Cookies

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup(s) brown sugar, firmly packed
2 1/4 cup(s) flour
1/2 teaspoon(s) each baking soda and salt
3/4 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
3/4 cup(s) raisins
3/4 cup(s) nuts, chopped

Steps:

  • Combine flour, salt, cinnamon and baking soda - stir well. Place flour mixture in a clean mason jar. Pack down tight so everything will fit in the jar. (Use a spoon or a mallet.) Add other ingredients, one item at a time, packing each layer down. Put the lid on the jar and tie a ribbon around the lid. You can add a personalized label, if you wish. As an added touch, tie a wooden spoon to the lid with a piece of ribbon.
  • Attach to Jar - Apple sauce cookies Whip 3/4 cup of butter or shortening until light and fluffy. Add 1 egg and 1/2 cup applesauce and beat until mixed. Stir in the ingredients from this jar until well combined. Drop teaspoons of dough on a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 8 - 12 minutes at 350 degrees F.
  • Alternative: Michelle Made this with 1 1/2 tsp apple pie spice instead of the cinnamon and replaced the raisins with crasins

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples. For the best flavor and texture, use a combination of sweet and tart apples, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Pink Lady.
  • Peel and core the apples before cooking. This will help to prevent the applesauce from becoming too thick and chunky.
  • Cook the applesauce until it is thick and smooth. This will help to ensure that the cookies will be moist and chewy.
  • Add your favorite spices to the applesauce. Common spices used in applesauce cookies include cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger.
  • Let the applesauce cool completely before using it to make the cookies. This will help to prevent the cookies from spreading too much in the oven.
  • Bake the cookies at the right temperature. The ideal temperature for baking applesauce cookies is 350°F (175°C).
  • Let the cookies cool completely before enjoying them. This will help to ensure that the cookies are chewy and flavorful.

Conclusion:

Applesauce cookies are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. By following the tips above, you can make sure that your applesauce cookies turn out perfect every time. So next time you're looking for a sweet and satisfying snack, reach for an applesauce cookie!
