Tips:

  • Choose the right cabbage: Green cabbage is the most common type used in this soup, but you can also use red or Savoy cabbage. If you're using a red cabbage, be sure to add it to the soup later in the cooking process so that it doesn't discolor the other vegetables.
  • Don't overcrowd the pot: If you're using a small pot, cook the vegetables in batches. Overcrowding the pot will prevent the vegetables from cooking evenly.
  • Use a good quality broth: The broth is the base of the soup, so it's important to use a good quality broth. You can use chicken broth, vegetable broth, or even beef broth.
  • Season to taste: Be sure to taste the soup before serving and adjust the seasonings as needed. You may want to add more salt, pepper, or herbs.
  • Serve with your favorite toppings: This soup is delicious served with a dollop of sour cream, a sprinkle of grated cheese, or a few croutons.

Conclusion:

Cabbage, potato, and tomato soup is a hearty, flavorful soup that's perfect for a cold winter day. It's also a very affordable soup to make, which makes it a great option for families on a budget. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can have a delicious and satisfying soup that the whole family will enjoy.
