SUPER-GARLIC BUTTER FLAVORED POPCORN

Super-Garlic Butter Flavored Popcorn image

We love popcorn at our house and not the stuff that comes in a microwavable bag. We use a hot air popcorn popper and then have fun with our flavors. This recipe is soo good, especially if you are a garlic lover. I crave this, I do! Sometimes I will throw in some freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Mmmm. From Cooks Illustrated.

6 pkg jello (cherry, orange, lemon, lime, blueberry, grape)
3/4 c butter
9 Tbsp light corn syrup
1 and 1/2 c sugar

Which comes out too roughly 2 and 1/2 Tablespoons for Jell-O Most of the colors besides the red and the blue come out a little dull, If you would like too add food coloring to brighten it up a bit, Go for it!! Preheat your oven too 300 and grease a large cookie sheet and line with parchment
  • 2. Pop your 24 cups of popcorn (I popped mine on the stove, You end up with less kernels that way!) and Divide into 6 different Bowls (4 cups each)

For each color of popcorn do the following: (Do 2 at a time too make it go quicker) Over low heat in a small or medium sized saucepan combine 2 tablespoons of butter with 1 1/2 tablespoons of corn syrup over low heat. Add 1/4 cup of sugar and half a package (2 1/2 T) of jello powder. Continue to heat and stir until the mixture starts to simmer, allow to simmer for approximately 5 minutes (This is the time where you would add some food coloring too brighten up the colors!) Pour the syrup immediately over the popcorn (DON'T SCRAPE THE BOTTOM) tossing to coat well and then spread the popcorn on/in the prepared pan or cookie sheet
  • 4. Bake for 15 minutes, stirring popcorn a couple of times during baking. Turn the popcorn out onto a piece of parchment and spread it out slightly. Allow to cool completely and break any clumps apart. Allow a few mins too cool and its ready to consume!!!

If you love Popcorn and also love Basil; try this! I think you will love it, as I do! You don't have to worry about making this with a Popcorn Popper-check out another suggestion! Thanks *Make your own basil infused olive oil! Recipe: from Michael Chiarello/Food Network

Categories     Popcorn

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 c popcorn, popped, recipe follows
1/4 c basil infused olive oil
2 Tbsp grey salt
freshly ground black pepper
1/2 c freshly grated parmesan
POPCORN
1/4 c olive oil
1 1/2 c popcorn

Steps:

  • 1. Drizzle basil infused oil over the popcorn. Grind grey salt in a spice grinder (a coffee grinder also works well for this purpose) until fine - it will stick to the popcorn more evenly if the crystals are smaller. Add black pepper, then grate parmesan over the popcorn.
  • 2. For Popcorn: Preheat a large cast iron Dutch oven on a stove top over high heat. Add olive oil, then popcorn. As soon as it begins to pop, cover and turn down to medium heat until sound of popping stops, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  • 3. WHAT IS GREY SEA SALT! Taken from: http://www.saltworks.us/salt_info/si_gourmet_reference.asp#.Ui5aQdLBOSo Grey salt is a "moist" unrefined sea salt, usually found in the Brittany region of France's Atlantic coast. Its natural light grey color comes from the minerals absorbed from the clay lining the salt ponds. The salt is collected by hand using traditional Celtic methods and wooden tools. Grey salt has gained great fame in the mainstream culinary world in the last few years, and is considered by many to be the best quality salt available. It is available in coarse grain - which is the perfect finishing or pinching size, stone ground fine - ideally used at the table instead of processed salts, and extra fine (Velvet) grain - perfect for sprinkling over nuts or popcorn. Celtic Sea Salt Brand is a registered trademark of Selina Naturally®. Can be found on Amazon.com

Tips:

  • Choose the right popcorn kernels. For the best results, use fresh, non-GMO popcorn kernels. Avoid old or stale kernels, as they will not pop as well.
  • Use the right amount of oil. Too much oil will make the popcorn greasy, while too little will make it dry. A good rule of thumb is to use about 1 tablespoon of oil for every 1/2 cup of popcorn kernels.
  • Heat the oil over medium-high heat. This will help the popcorn kernels to pop quickly and evenly.
  • Add the popcorn kernels to the pot. Once the oil is hot, add the popcorn kernels. Be sure to distribute the kernels evenly in the pot so that they all have a chance to pop.
  • Cover the pot and shake it frequently. This will help to distribute the heat evenly and prevent the popcorn from burning.
  • Listen for the popping to slow down. Once the popping slows down to about 2-3 seconds between pops, remove the pot from the heat.
  • Pour the popcorn into a large bowl. Add your desired seasonings and enjoy!

Conclusion:

Making flavored popcorn at home is a fun and easy way to enjoy a delicious snack. With a variety of flavors to choose from, there is sure to be a recipe that everyone will enjoy. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy snack, try making some flavored popcorn. You won't be disappointed!
