I make these fruit skewers every year for the 4th of July for the kids and they are always a major hit - older kids can help with the assembly. Don't cut the watermelon too thinly, otherwise the stars will break when you are trying to skewer them.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh and ripe fruits: Fresh fruits will be more flavorful and juicy, while ripe fruits will be easier to skewer and will hold their shape better.
  • Use a variety of fruits: Different fruits offer different flavors and textures, so using a variety will create a more interesting kabob.
  • Cut the fruit into uniform pieces: This will help ensure that the fruit cooks evenly.
  • Use sturdy skewers: Bamboo skewers are a good option, as they are strong and easy to use. If you are using metal skewers, be sure to soak them in water for at least 30 minutes before using to prevent them from rusting.
  • Preheat your grill or oven: This will help to ensure that the fruit cooks evenly.
  • Cook the kabobs until the fruit is tender: The cooking time will vary depending on the type of fruit you are using, but generally speaking, the fruit should be cooked until it is slightly caramelized and tender.
  • Serve the kabobs warm or at room temperature: Fruit kabobs are best served warm or at room temperature. If you are serving them cold, be sure to bring them to room temperature before serving.
