Time 17m

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 angel food cake, prepared
1 cup cantaloupe, chopped or 1 cup honeydew melon
1/2 cup strawberry, chopped
1/2 cup blueberries
1 cup raspberries
1/2 cup blackberry
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons lime juice
1 tablespoon of fresh mint, chopped
1/8 teaspoon cayenne
4 cups sherbet (optional) or 4 cups sorbet, any flavor (optional)

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, combine fruit, sugar, lime juice, mint, and cayenne pepper and mix well. Cover and refrigerate for a couple of hours before serving.
  • When ready to serve, prepare and preheat grill.
  • Slice cake in half horizontally and place, cut side down, on grill 6" from medium coals.
  • Grill for 30-60 seconds or until light golden brown. Carefully turn cake and grill on second side for 30-60 seconds until light golden brown.
  • Be sure to watch the angel food cake very carefully when grilling. Don't leave the grill for even a second, because it will brown very quickly!
  • Cut cake into 8 pieces and top with fruit mixture and sherbet or sorbet.
  • Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Choose ripe, fresh fruits: The quality of your salsa depends on the quality of your ingredients. Make sure to use ripe, fresh fruits that are at their peak flavor.
  • Use a variety of fruits: Don't be afraid to experiment with different fruits. A good salsa will have a mix of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors. Some popular fruits to use in salsa include tomatoes, mangoes, pineapples, peaches, and strawberries.
  • Add some heat: If you like your salsa with a little kick, add some chopped jalapeños or serrano peppers. You can also use chili powder or cayenne pepper.
  • Balance the flavors: A good salsa should have a balance of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors. If your salsa is too sweet, add some lime juice or vinegar. If it's too tangy, add some sugar or honey. And if it's too spicy, add some sour cream or yogurt.
  • Chill the salsa before serving: Chilling the salsa before serving allows the flavors to meld together and develop. It also makes the salsa more refreshing.

Conclusion:

Fruit salsa is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed as an appetizer, side dish, or main course. It's a great way to use up fresh fruits and it's also a healthy and refreshing option. With so many different recipes to choose from, you're sure to find a fruit salsa that you'll love.
