Orange & Spice Cutout Cookies image

I've been making these cookies since I was a little girl. When my mother retired from baking the holiday cookies and passed the mantle on to me, she also passed along this recipe. In time, I will give it my young niece. Just the smell of them takes me back to when I was a little one, just like she is now. -Lisa Rocco-Price, Bronx, New York

Tips:

  • Prep and Measure Ingredients: Before starting, measure and prepare all ingredients. This ensures smooth and efficient baking.
  • Use Room Temperature Butter: Softened butter incorporates better, resulting in a more consistent and flavorful cookie.
  • Chill the Dough: Chilling the dough before baking enhances flavor and prevents spreading, ensuring a perfect shape.
  • Roll the Dough Evenly: Use a rolling pin to achieve an even thickness throughout the dough. Consistent thickness ensures uniform baking.
  • Cut Cookies Evenly: Use a sharp cookie cutter or knife to make clean cuts. Uniform shapes bake evenly and look more aesthetically pleasing.
  • Space Cookies Properly: Place cookies with enough space between them on the baking sheet. This prevents them from sticking together and allows for even heat circulation.
  • Bake Cookies Until Golden Brown: Keep an eye on the cookies while baking. Remove them from the oven once the edges are golden brown and the centers are set.
  • Cool Cookies Completely: Allow cookies to cool completely on a wire rack before glazing. This prevents the glaze from melting and ensures a smooth, even coating.
  • Glaze Cookies Generously: Dip each cookie into the glaze, ensuring it's fully coated. You can also drizzle the glaze over the cookies for a decorative touch.
