MOM'S BEST BROWNIES

Mom's Best Brownies image

My mom has made a variation of these brownies as long as I can remember. She doesn't know where she got the recipe from. I substituted whole wheat flour and honestly no one can tell it isn't made with white flour! You can substitute plain applesauce for part of the oil, but I like to use 1 c oil (as my mom does) with no applesauce - faster to measure, and it is a dessert after all! I hope you enjoy!

Time 35m

Yield 24 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

1/2 cup cocoa
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup unrefined coconut oil or 1 cup butter, melted
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
chopped nuts (optional)
peanut butter (optional)
chocolate chips (optional)
flavored chips (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Grease and 'flour' 9x13" pan, using cocoa powder instead of flour. (This will eliminate any white spots on bottom of brownies).
  • In a large bowl, stir together cocoa, flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  • Add oil, eggs, vanilla, and any optional ingredients. Mix well, stopping as soon as all ingredients are incorporated - excessive mixing will cause a cake-like texture.
  • Pour into prepared 9x13" pan.
  • Bake at 350 for 27-30 minutes. Test with toothpick, the brownies are done when no batter clings to it. Remove slightly earlier if you like a gooey, eat with a fork brownie.

Oh, these brownies brought back childhood memories. They reminded me of my grandmother's brownies. The buttermilk helps make these super moist. And that icing? Tops them off perfectly. So chocolaty, so moist and so good!

The credit goes to my mom for these brownies. She has tons of people who request these little devils often. My parents live on a golf course, and even the Pro's from there call and ask for a batch now and then. It is a fabulous recipe, and one that I LOVE! Thanks mom!

VEGAN BROWNIES

MMMMM...Vegan Brownies!!!! These are very gooey, which is a good thing in my book. However, if you want your brownies a little more solid you'll need to cook them longer than the recommended time. Great for people with egg or dairy allergies too!

Tips:

  • To ensure even baking, make sure all ingredients are at room temperature before starting. This will help the batter mix more evenly and prevent lumps.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing can result in a tough and dense brownie. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Use a good quality cocoa powder. The quality of the cocoa powder will have a big impact on the flavor of your brownies. Look for a cocoa powder that is labeled "natural" or "unsweetened".
  • Don't overbake the brownies. Overbaking will result in dry and crumbly brownies. The brownies are done when they are set around the edges but still have a slight wobble in the center.
  • Let the brownies cool completely before cutting them. This will help prevent them from falling apart.

Conclusion:

With these tips in mind, you can easily make delicious cocoa powder brownies at home. These brownies are fudgy, chocolatey, and have the perfect amount of sweetness. They're sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them! Feel free to experiment with different add-ins, such as nuts, chocolate chips, or even a swirl of peanut butter.
