Time 50m

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

4 medium apples, peeled and sliced
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons granulated sugar
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup quick oats
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 cup margarine, diced into small cubes
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

  • Pour apples into an ungreased 8 X 8 inch baking pan.
  • Mix remaining ingredients in a bowl, working margarine or butter into dry ingredients with a fork or hands until mixture is crumbly.
  • Sprinkle mixture over apples.
  • Bake until topping is golden and crispy, and apples are tender, around 30 minutes.
  • Serve warm.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of apples. This will give your crisp a more complex flavor and texture. Some good options include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn.
  • Don't overmix the topping. You want it to be crumbly, not doughy.
  • Use a large baking dish. This will help the crisp cook evenly.
  • Bake the crisp until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender. This usually takes about 45 minutes.
  • Serve the crisp warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
