¼ teaspoon salt
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
½ cup chopped walnuts

ORANGE RAISIN CAKE

Prepared in by colonal housewives who used a salamander (a long-handled iron plate that was heated in the fire and held over pastry to brown it) to melt the cake's glaze. I've made this any number of times (w/o the salamander) because it is delicious and unusual! From the BH&G Heritage Cookbook

Tips:

  • Use fresh oranges. Fresh oranges will give your cake a brighter flavor and more vibrant color.
  • Zest the oranges before you juice them. The zest of an orange contains a lot of flavor, so be sure to zest them before you juice them. You can use a microplane zester or a vegetable peeler to remove the zest.
  • Use good quality raisins. Raisins that are plump and moist will give your cake a better texture and flavor.
  • Soak the raisins in hot water for 30 minutes before adding them to the cake batter. This will help to plump them up and make them more flavorful.
  • Don't overmix the cake batter. Overmixing the cake batter can make the cake tough. Mix the batter just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the cake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting it. This will help to prevent the frosting from melting.

Conclusion:

Orange raisin cake is a delicious and easy-to-make cake that is perfect for any occasion. With its moist texture, sweet and tangy flavor, and beautiful appearance, this cake is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you're looking for a special cake to make, give orange raisin cake a try. You won't be disappointed!
