THE PERFECT MARGARITA

Mastering the margarita requires a certain amount of practice, but once you dial-in your perfect ratio, it's a really easy cocktail to replicate. The classic recipe is 3 parts tequila, 2 parts triple sec, and 1 part freshly squeezed lime juice, and you should probably start off pretty close to that, but my personal favorite proportions are 4-3-2.

PERFECT BLUE AGAVE MARGARITA

Perfect Blue Agave Margarita image

A very simple and refreshing margarita made with silver tequila, fresh limes and blue agave nectar. Blue agave nectar is a very light and natural sweetener made from the blue agave plant. You can find it at your supermarket (Whole Foods/Sprouts) or online (Amazon). No need for additional sweeteners, triple sec or anything else. Just pure and simple and very smooth. My wife, who hates margaritas on the rocks, loves this mix.

APPLEBEE'S PERFECT MARGARITA

Applebee's Perfect Margarita image

After years of searching for the recipe, I think I finally found it. I found it at cdkitchen.com (Recipe # 75842). If you can't find simple syrup at the liquor store, you can eaily make it at home. If you have a BevMo near you, they sell it (acording to their website)but it is $5 for 12 ounces so making it at home is cheaper. Some recipes say to use equal parts sugar and water and others say to use 2 parts sugar / 1 part water. So feel free to experiment, or just use 1.5 parts sugar and 1 part water and that will probably work. To make: Pour water into saucepan. Add sugar. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat and continue stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. It should be smooth; no clumps. Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature. Bottle it and store in fridge.

PERFECT AGAVE MARGARITA

Perfect Agave Margarita image

Much research has caused me to determine that most Americans have been led down the 'preverbal' path in the ingredients of a great margarita. We have grown to love lime aid with some added tequila as what we know as a margarita. Hopefully this recipe will help to change that. But, as I always say--to each his/her own. Some will...

PERFECT MARGARITA

Categories     Citrus     Quick & Easy     Summer     Drink

Yield 2

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 ounces Herradura Silver Tequila (see Note)
1.5 ounces Cointreau
.5 ounces Grand Marnier
3 ounces fresh lime juice
1.5 ounces simple syrup (see Note)
Kosher salt
Lime slices

Steps:

  • Moisten rims of two glasses with lime juice and dip in Kosher salt. Mix tequila, Cointreau, Grand Marnier, fresh lime juice and simple syrup in a blender or shaker. Place ice into blender or fill glasses with ice. Pour margarita mixture into prepared glasses. Garnish each glass with lime slice. Enjoy! VARIATION: I use .5 ounce more lime juice. NOTE: We use El Tesoro Platinum Tequila by De Don Felipe. One Jigger = 1.5 ounces. For convenience, I use a Simple Syrup by Stirrings that contains only cane sugar. You can find it at you local liquor store or at www.stirrings.com

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients: The quality of your ingredients will greatly impact the taste of your margarita. Use fresh lime juice, high-quality tequila, and a good orange liqueur.
  • Choose the right tequila: Not all tequilas are created equal. For a classic margarita, use a silver or blanco tequila. Añejo or reposado tequilas can also be used, but they will give the margarita a different flavor profile.
  • Use the right amount of lime juice: Too much lime juice can make the margarita too sour. Too little lime juice will make it too sweet. Start with 1 ounce of lime juice and adjust to taste.
  • Use the right amount of orange liqueur: Orange liqueur adds sweetness and depth of flavor to the margarita. Use 1/2 ounce of orange liqueur and adjust to taste.
  • Use the right amount of simple syrup: Simple syrup is used to sweeten the margarita. Use 1/2 ounce of simple syrup and adjust to taste.
  • Shake the margarita well: Shaking the margarita helps to combine the ingredients and chill the drink. Shake the margarita for at least 10 seconds.
  • Serve the margarita with a lime wedge: A lime wedge adds a fresh, citrusy flavor to the margarita. It also makes the margarita look more appealing.

Conclusion:

The perfect margarita is a refreshing, delicious cocktail that is perfect for any occasion. By following these tips, you can make a margarita that is sure to impress your friends and family.
