Williams-Sonoma Pumpkin Dessert Squares image

The good folk at Williams-Sonoma were handing out samples of these a few weeks back. They were (of course) just scrumptious. These were made with Muirhead Pumpkin Pecan Butter (sold at W-S, needless to say), but I would imagine that any good pumpkin butter would do just fine.

  • Choose the Right Cake Mix: Opt for a yellow cake mix that is of good quality and fresh. Check the expiration date before purchasing.
  • Prepare the Pumpkin Puree: If using fresh pumpkin, ensure it's cooked and pureed until smooth. Canned pumpkin puree can also be used for convenience.
  • Don't Overmix the Batter: Overmixing can result in a dense and tough cake. Mix the batter until just combined, avoiding overworking it.
  • Use Room Temperature Ingredients: This allows the ingredients to blend more evenly, resulting in a smooth and consistent batter.
  • Bake at the Right Temperature: Follow the recommended baking temperature and duration specified in the recipe. Avoid opening the oven frequently during baking to prevent the cake from sinking.
  • Let it Cool Before Frosting: Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting it. This prevents the frosting from melting and becoming runny.
