Time 1h

Yield 8 cup, 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 cups rice, boiled
1 cup milk
1 lb sausage
1 small onion
1 sweet pepper
margarine

Steps:

  • Remove the seeds from the pepper, chop and parboil.
  • Add pepper and onion, chopped fine, to the rice.
  • Mix thoroughly and put a layer in a buttered baking dish.
  • Add a layer of the sausages which have been partially cooked, and cover with rice.
  • Pour milk over it all and dot with butter.
  • Cover and bake for one-half hour.
  • Remove the cover and bake for another half hour.
  • Temperature: 350F Time: 1 hour.

Tips:

  • Choose the right rice: Short-grain rice, such as Japanese or sushi rice, is best for making rice dishes. It has a sticky texture that helps the rice hold together. If you don't have short-grain rice, you can use medium-grain rice, but it won't be as sticky.
  • Rinse the rice thoroughly: Rinsing the rice removes the starch from the surface of the grains, which helps to prevent the rice from becoming gummy.
  • Use the right amount of water: The amount of water you use will depend on the type of rice and the desired consistency of the dish. Generally, you'll need about 1 1/2 cups of water for every cup of rice.
  • Cook the rice over medium heat: Medium heat helps to prevent the rice from scorching or sticking to the pot.
  • Don't stir the rice while it's cooking: Stirring the rice can break the grains and make the rice mushy.
  • Let the rice rest before serving: Letting the rice rest allows the grains to absorb the remaining water and become fluffy.

Conclusion:

With these tips in mind, you're sure to make perfect rice every time. Whether you're making a simple side dish or a complex entrée, rice is a versatile ingredient that can be enjoyed in many different ways. So experiment with different recipes and find your favorites.
