GRANDMA'S CRANBERRY-ORANGE GELATIN SALAD

Grandma's Cranberry-Orange Gelatin Salad image

My grandmother made this salad every Thanksgiving. It is delicious even without its creamy topping. This side dish is so yummy, I sometimes make it even when it's not Thanksgiving! Depending on your salad's shape, you can spread the topping in a layer over the Jell-O; or if you use a ring mold, put the topping in the center. Alternately, you could serve the topping in a bowl on the side, so it's optional.

1 cup chopped pecans
1 teaspoon orange zest
1 (4 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
½ cup whipped topping

Tips:

  • Use fresh oranges for the best flavor. If you don't have fresh oranges, you can use canned mandarin oranges, but be sure to drain them well before adding them to the salad.
  • If you don't have orange gelatin, you can use another flavor of gelatin, such as lemon or lime. Just be sure to adjust the amount of sugar you add to the salad accordingly.
  • For a creamier salad, you can add 1/2 cup of sour cream or whipped cream to the gelatin mixture before refrigerating.
  • If you want to make the salad ahead of time, you can prepare it up to 24 hours in advance. Just be sure to keep it covered in the refrigerator until you're ready to serve.

Conclusion:

Tart Orange Gelatin Salad is a classic recipe that's perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make, refreshing, and always a crowd-pleaser. So next time you're looking for a delicious and festive salad, give this recipe a try.
