Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour, or more as needed
1 envelope Fleischmann's® Pizza Crust Yeast or RapidRise Yeast
1 ½ teaspoons sugar
¾ teaspoon salt
⅔ cup very warm water (120 degrees to 130 degrees F)*
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
¼ teaspoon Spice Islands® Garlic Powder
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
¼ cup chopped onion
¼ cup chopped or thinly sliced carrots
4 cups chopped romaine lettuce
1 cup chopped fresh tomatoes or halved grape tomatoes
¼ cup prepared Italian salad dressing
¼ cup shredded Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  • Combine 1 cup flour, undissolved yeast, sugar and salt in a large bowl. Add very warm water and oil; mix until well blended, about 1 minute.
  • Gradually add enough remaining flour to make a soft dough. Dough should form a ball and will be slightly sticky. Knead** on a floured surface, adding additional flour if necessary, until smooth and elastic, about 4 minutes. (If using RapidRise Yeast, let dough rest at this point for 10 minutes.)
  • Pat dough with floured hands to fill greased pizza pan or baking sheet. OR roll dough on a floured counter to 12-inch circle; place in greased pizza pan or baking sheet. Form a rim by pinching the edge of the dough.
  • Brush crust with 1 tablespoon olive oil and sprinkle with garlic powder. Combine mozzarella cheese, onions and carrots; spread over the crust.
  • Bake on lowest oven rack for 15 to 18 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and crust is browned. Remove from oven and let cool 2 to 3 minutes. While pizza is baking, toss together lettuce, tomatoes and Italian salad dressing. Spread over pizza and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Serve immediately!

Yield Serves 2; can be doubled

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 4-ounce fully baked pizza crust (such as Boboli), cubed
1 1/2 cups diced tomatoes
1/2 cup thinly sliced fresh basil
1/2 cup bottled Italian dressing
1 small green bell pepper, chopped
1 cup diced fresh mozzarella cheese (about 4 ounces)
1/2 3.5-ounce package sliced pepperoni
1 large bunch arugula, stemmed

Steps:

  • Toss pizza crust, tomatoes, basil and 1/4 cup dressing in large bowl; let stand 5 minutes. Mix in bell pepper, cheese, pepperoni and arugula. Add remaining 1/4 cup dressing; toss to combine. Season with salt and pepper and serve.

Tips:

  • Use Fresh, Quality Ingredients: Prioritize the quality of your ingredients for the best flavor. Use the freshest vegetables, crisp salad greens, and high-quality cheese and dressing.
  • Pack the Salad Jar Wisely: Layer the ingredients carefully to ensure an even distribution of flavors and textures. Place heavier items like grilled chicken or chickpeas at the bottom, then add softer ingredients like lettuce and tomatoes, followed by dressing and crispy toppings.
  • Balance the Dressing: For a well-balanced salad, aim for a ratio of 3 parts olive oil to 1 part vinegar or lemon juice. Adjust the proportions to your taste preference, ensuring the dressing complements the salad ingredients without overpowering them.
  • Consider Dietary Preferences: Tailor your pizza salad to accommodate various dietary needs. Include gluten-free pizza crust or croutons for those with gluten sensitivities, or use vegan cheese and plant-based protein sources for a vegan-friendly option.
  • Experiment with Different Toppings: Don't limit yourself to the classic pizza toppings. Experiment with unique ingredients like roasted red peppers, grilled pineapple, or crumbled goat cheese to create a personalized and flavorful salad.

Conclusion:

The pizza salad offers a creative and convenient way to enjoy your favorite pizza flavors in a healthier and more portable form. With its endless variations and customizable toppings, this salad is a versatile dish that can cater to diverse tastes and dietary preferences.
