Categories     Bean

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 can tomatoes mashed/chopped
a few cans of tomato soup & 1/2 tin water (or more)
1 or 2 lbs hamburger
kidney beans - 2 or more cans
pork and beans - 1 or 2 cans
onions - 2, chopped
green pepper - diced
chick peas - garbanzo beans
2 tbsp cumin
2 or more tbsp chili powder
salt & pepper

Steps:

  • Slowly brown onion and green pepper in a bit of oil to soften it, brown hamburger in same frying pan. Pour off any extra grease from the pan into a tin can (let it solidify then throw out). Add cumin and chili and cook for 30 sec to 1 minute until fragrant. Drain and rinse kidney beans and chick peas. Place all ingredients in large pot. Over medium heat bring to a boil, then lower to a low simmer and cook covered for 1 or 2 hours. You can also take lid off and chili will thicken more. Stir it every once in a while so it doesn't stick to the bottom.

Overall, this is a decent chili recipe. It's not the best I've ever had, but it's definitely not the worst either.

This chili is a bit too spicy for me, but I can see how others would enjoy it.

This chili is way too salty! I had to add a lot of water to tone it down.

I'm not sure why this recipe is called 'Grandma's Chili'. It doesn't taste anything like the chili my grandma used to make.

I'm not sure what went wrong, but my chili turned out really bland. I guess I'll have to try a different recipe next time.

I followed the recipe exactly, but my chili turned out nothing like the picture. It was a big waste of time and ingredients.
