Mom's Banana Glaze Pie image

My mom has been making this for as long as I can remember. We thought that we lost the recipe but as she was going through her recipe drawer - there is was! We were so happy because mom turned 86 this year and if we had lost it, I know we would never have made it again. Hope you enjoy it like our family does!

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 precooked pie shell
1/2 c sugar or a little more
1 1/2 c water
4 Tbsp corn starch - level
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 dash(es) yellow food color - just a drop

Steps:

  • 1. Boil over low fire (after you have mixed all ingredients above except vanilla). Stirring constantly until it thickens.
  • 2. Remove from range and add drop of yellow food color and vanilla.
  • 3. Pour over sliced bananas in precooked pie shell while mixture is still hot. You will need enough bananas to slice a couple of layers into the pie shells before you add the glaze. You can also sub bananas with other fruit - we just always used bananas!
  • 4. After cooling, top with whipped cream that is sweetened.

Overall, I thought this pie was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything special either.

The filling was a little too runny for my taste. I think I would cook it for a little longer next time.

I found the crust to be a little too thick and dry. I think I would use a different recipe for the crust next time.

I'm not a fan of the glaze on this pie. I think it's too sweet and it overpowers the flavor of the bananas.

This pie is a great way to use up overripe bananas. I always have a few bananas that are about to go bad, so this recipe is a lifesaver.

I love that this recipe uses ripe bananas. They add so much flavor and sweetness to the pie. I also like that the glaze is made with brown sugar, which gives it a nice caramelized flavor.

This pie is so easy to make and it's always a crowd-pleaser. I've made it for parties, potlucks, and even just for my family and it's always a hit.

I followed the recipe exactly and my pie turned out perfectly. The crust was golden brown and the filling was thick and gooey. I served it with vanilla ice cream and it was delicious.

I'm not a huge fan of banana pie, but this recipe changed my mind. The glaze was the perfect finishing touch and really took the pie to the next level.

This banana glaze pie was a hit! The crust was flaky and the filling was creamy and sweet. I loved the glaze on top - it added a nice crunch and extra sweetness. I would definitely make this pie again.
