CHERRY CRISP USING FRESH/FROZEN CHERRIES

Cherry Crisp Using Fresh/Frozen Cherries image

I love this crisp recipe - you can easily use other types of fruit and has adequate amounts of fruit and topping. The topping is usually about a half-inch thick, so add more fruit to a 9x13 pan if you like a larger amount of fruit in compairason to topping

CHERRY CRISP

Cherry Crisp image

The very first time that I made Cherry Crisp, my brother happened to be visiting. He is an ice cream lover-but he passed up the scoops of vanilla that he tops most desserts with so he could taste the cherries better! Wheat, soybeans and milo are the main crops on our farm. We also have three small cherry trees. I apportion all of that harvest for this recipe. My husband's is the manager of a coop. I work part-time as a church secretary...teach piano in our home...and enjoy making clothes for myself and our 3-year-old daughter. Cross-stitch is one of my favorite hobbies.

SWEET CHERRY CRISP

Although it has been tweaked a little, the original of this recipe was seen recently on Paula Deen's show, Paula's Best Dishes, & we found this very enjoyable. Prep time does not include the 15 minutes needed for the finished crisp to cool before serving.

Time 40m

Tips:

  • Use fresh, ripe cherries: Fresh cherries will give your crisp the best flavor. If you can't find fresh cherries, you can use frozen cherries, but be sure to thaw them before using.
  • Pit the cherries: You can use a cherry pitter to make this task easier. If you don't have a cherry pitter, you can use a knife to cut around the pit and then pop it out.
  • Use a combination of sugars: Using a combination of granulated sugar and brown sugar will give your crisp a more complex flavor.
  • Don't overmix the topping: Overmixing the topping will make it tough. Just mix it until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the crisp until the topping is golden brown and the cherries are bubbling: This will usually take about 30 minutes.
  • Let the crisp cool slightly before serving: This will allow the flavors to meld and the crisp to set.

Conclusion:

Cherry crisp is a classic summer dessert that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With its sweet and tart cherries, crunchy topping, and creamy vanilla ice cream, it's the perfect way to end a summer meal. So next time you're looking for a delicious and easy dessert, give cherry crisp a try. You won't be disappointed!
