Crust
1 1/3 cups all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) chilled unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1/4 cup frozen solid vegetable shortening, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
3 tablespoons (or more) ice water
1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
Filling
3 1/4 pounds Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, sliced 1/4 inch thick
2/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Topping
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup (packed) golden brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons chilled unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
Vanilla ice cream

Steps:

  • For crust:
  • Mix flour, salt, and sugar in large bowl. Add butter and shortening; rub in with fingertips until coarse meal forms. Mix 3 tablespoons ice water and vinegar in small bowl to blend. Drizzle over flour mixture; stir with fork until moist clumps form, adding more water by teaspoonfuls if dough is dry. Gather dough into ball; flatten into disk. Wrap in plastic; refrigerate 30 minutes.
  • Position rack in center of oven and preheat to 400°F. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface to 12-inch round. Transfer to 9-inch-diameter glass pie dish. Trim overhang to 1/2 inch; turn edge under and crimp decoratively. Refrigerate while preparing filling and topping.
  • For filling:
  • Mix all ingredients in large bowl to coat apples.
  • For topping:
  • Blend first 5 ingredients in processor. Add chilled butter cubes; using on/off turns, cut in until mixture resembles wet sand.
  • Toss filling to redistribute juices; transfer to crust, mounding in center. Pack topping over and around apples. Bake pie on baking sheet until topping is golden, about 40 minutes (cover top with foil if browning too quickly). Reduce oven temperature to 350°F. Bake until apples in center are tender when pierced and filling is bubbling thickly at edges, about 45 minutes longer. Cool until warm, about 1 hour. Serve with ice cream.

CINNAMON CRUMBLE-TOP APPLE PIE

Cinnamon Crumble-Top Apple Pie image

This is a high apple pie with a thick layer of delicious topping, this pie is just wonderful! I have even added in some cranberries with the apples, if you are adding in cranberries, then reduce the apples slightly. Use only Granny Smith apples for this pie, and other kind will become mushy when baked.

APPLE CINNAMON NUT CRUMBLE SLAB PIE

Apple Cinnamon Nut Crumble Slab Pie image

I used my favorite butter crust to create this pie. It has a yummy cinnamon spice flavor. The combination of spice with the Golden Delicious apples is so outstanding! I also topped it off with a cinnamon walnut crumble that adds an extra flavor level. It kind of reminds me of an apple crisp served in a pie shell. You will love...

Cinnamon Apple Crumble Recipe - (4.7/5) image

Provided by á-46561

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1 (14-ounces) can Sweetened Condensed Milk
2 cups peeled, cored, finely chopped Granny Smith apples, or other firm, tart apples
1/2 cup butterscotch chips
1/2 cup cinnamon chips
1/2 cup flaked coconut (if you don't like coconut, you can leave out)
1/2 cup finely chopped nuts
1/4 to 1/2 cup Caramel Ice Cream Topping, optional

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Spray a 13x9-inch baking pan with no-stick cooking spray. Combine graham cracker crumbs, cinnamon and butter. Press into bottom of prepared pan. Sprinkle oats over crust. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over oats. Layer with apples, butterscotch chips, cinnamon chips coconut and nuts. Bake 28 to 33 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from oven and immediately drizzle caramel ice cream topping over bars - probably about 1/4 cup total. Let allow to cool fully if you want to try to cut into bars. Otherwise scoop and serve warm with ice cream and an additional drizzle of caramel ice cream topping.

Tips:

  • Use the right apples: For the best flavor and texture, choose a variety of apples that are firm and tart, such as Granny Smith or Braeburn.
  • Peel and slice the apples thinly: This will help them cook evenly and soften quickly.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: Make sure there is enough space between the apples so that they can cook evenly.
  • Use a combination of spices: In addition to cinnamon, try adding other spices such as nutmeg, ginger, or cloves.
  • Don't overcook the crumble: The topping should be golden brown and the apples should be tender but still slightly firm.

Conclusion:

Cinnamon apple crumble is a classic dessert that is easy to make and loved by people of all ages. With its sweet and tangy apples, crunchy oat topping, and warm spices, it's the perfect comfort food for a cold day. Whether you serve it with a scoop of ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, cinnamon apple crumble is sure to be a hit.
