DATE NUT DREAM BARS

Date Nut Dream Bars image

There are many variations of this recipe and I have tried several. This is the one I like best. It is a very versatile recipe because you may substitute whatever dried fruits or nuts you have on hand for what the recipe calls for. The base is a delicious, buttery shortbread and I love the butter icing. Store these in the fridge so that the icing stays firm.

DATE NUT BARS

DATE NUT BARS image

Categories     Cookies     Fruit     Dessert

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/4 C melted butter
1 C sugar
3 eggs well beaten
1 C flour
1 t baking powder
1 C dates cut fine
1 C nut meats chopped (walnuts)

Steps:

  • Mix in order given. Bake in 9 x 14 well greased pan. Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until doesn't stick to toothpick at 350 degrees. Cool. Cut in finger shaped pieces and roll in confectionary sugar while still warm.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh, high-quality ingredients: Use ripe dates, crunchy nuts, and creamy butter for the best flavor and texture.
  • Measure ingredients accurately: This is especially important for the baking soda and baking powder, as too much or too little can affect the final product.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing can make the bars tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Press the batter firmly into the pan: This will help the bars stay together when they're cut.
  • Bake the bars until they're just set: Overbaking will make them dry. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out with just a few moist crumbs attached.
  • Let the bars cool completely before cutting them: This will help prevent them from falling apart.
  • Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days: You can also freeze them for up to 2 months.

Conclusion:

Date Nut Bars are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that are perfect for any occasion. They're a great source of energy and fiber, and they can be customized to your liking. With so many variations to choose from, you're sure to find a recipe that you'll love. So next time you're looking for a sweet and satisfying snack, give Date Nut Bars a try!
