Provided by á-3412

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 1/2 lbs. stew meat, cut fine
1 onion, chopped
6 carrots, diced
2 potatoes, cubed
1 t. sugar
1 stalk celery
2 cups tomato juice
1 t. salt
2 1/2 t. minute tapioca

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Place all ingredients in an oven-safe casserole dish. Cover tightly. Bake 4 hours.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of vegetables. This will give your stew a more complex flavor and texture. Good choices include carrots, potatoes, celery, onions, and turnips.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different spices. Common spices used in beef stew include thyme, rosemary, garlic, and bay leaves. However, you can also try adding other spices, such as cumin, paprika, or chili powder.
  • Brown the beef before adding it to the stew. This will help to develop the flavor of the beef and prevent it from becoming tough.
  • Use a good quality beef broth. This will make a big difference in the flavor of your stew. If you don't have beef broth, you can use water or chicken broth. However, your stew will not be as flavorful.
  • Let the stew simmer for at least 2 hours. This will allow the flavors to develop and the beef to become tender.
  • Serve the stew with a side of bread or mashed potatoes. This will help to soak up the delicious gravy.

Conclusion:

Beef stew is a classic comfort food that is perfect for a cold winter day. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a little planning and effort, you can make a delicious beef stew that your family and friends will love.
