RAW DATE NUT TORTE

Raw Date Nut Torte image

In the process of making this easy dessert right now. I have the base made and it is delicious. Who knew Raw could be so good!!!! Found the recipe by Alice Cohen The Raw Food Diet. Can't wait to serve it up! Prep time does not include soaking time. Edited to add- I just made this again for my DIL and found it is much prettier with chopped walnuts on top.

Time 15m

Yield 1 torte, 10-12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 cups raisins
2 cups walnuts
1 cup dates (pitted and soaked at least one hour and up to overnite)
1/2 lemon (juiced)
1/4 cup walnuts, chopped (optional)

  • Spread the frosting on top of the torte.
  • Sprinkle on chopped walnuts (optional).
  • May or may not refrigerate before serving. Firmer for cutting if refrigerated.

NUT AND DATE PIE CRUST (PALEO) RECIPE - (4.8/5)

Nut and Date Pie Crust (Paleo) Recipe - (4.8/5) image

Provided by mdancause

Number Of Ingredients 7

Crust
2 1/2 cups raw mixed nuts (I used a combination of cashews, pecans, almonds, and hazelnuts)
1/2 cup chilled pitted dates
1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/2 tsp sea salt
1 tsp baking soda
2 Tbsp melted butter

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Place nuts in food processor and process until finely ground. Add remaining crust ingredients and pulse several times until dates are finely chopped, all ingredients are well integrated, and the nut dough can be pressed together. (Be sure not to go too long or you will end up with nut butter. Tasty, yes, but not what we're going for here!) Transfer to a 9-inch pie dish or tart pan. Press the dough firmly on the bottom and sides to form a crust. You may have just a little left over.

Tips:

  • Use a food processor or high-powered blender: This will help you to achieve a smooth and even consistency for your crust.
  • If your dates are dry, soak them in warm water for 10-15 minutes before using: This will help to soften them and make them easier to blend.
  • If you want a sweeter crust, add a few extra dates or a tablespoon of honey: Taste the crust as you go and adjust the sweetness to your liking.
  • Press the crust firmly into the pie pan: This will help to prevent it from cracking or crumbling.
  • Bake the crust for 10-12 minutes, or until it is golden brown: Keep an eye on the crust so that it does not burn.
  • Let the crust cool completely before filling it: This will help to prevent the crust from cracking.

Conclusion:

Raw date and nut crusts are a delicious and healthy alternative to traditional pie crusts. They are gluten-free, grain-free, and refined sugar-free, making them a great option for people with dietary restrictions. They are also very easy to make and can be used for a variety of pies and tarts. So next time you are looking for a healthy and delicious pie crust, give this raw date and nut crust a try. You won't be disappointed!
