Yield 20

Number Of Ingredients 19

2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon ground cloves
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ teaspoon ground allspice
¼ teaspoon salt
¾ cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup molasses
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
½ cup white sugar
1 pinch salt
2 eggs
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract

This recipe can easily be doubled and baked in a 13-by-18-inch baking sheet; I like to do this and freeze half for later.

Tips:

  • Use fresh, quality ingredients: This will make a big difference in the taste of your gingerbread bars.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing can make the bars tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the bars until they are just set: Overbaking can make the bars dry and crumbly. Insert a toothpick into the center of the bars; if it comes out with just a few moist crumbs attached, they are done.
  • Let the bars cool completely before frosting: This will help the frosting to set properly.
  • Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days: You can also freeze the bars for up to 2 months.

Conclusion:

Gingerbread bars are a classic holiday treat that are easy to make and always a hit. With their chewy texture, spicy flavor, and sweet frosting, they're sure to be a favorite of everyone who tries them. So next time you're looking for a festive dessert, give these gingerbread bars a try. You won't be disappointed!
