Steps:
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place the tator tots in a 9x13 light greased pan and place in the oven.
- In a large skillet mix together the ground beef spices, taco seasoning, salsa, green pepper and onion. Cook until the beef is throughly browned.
- After beef is browned pull tater tots from oven and spread ground beef over the tater tots and cut the chilles up to cover the ground beef. Cover with the 2 cups of cheese and bake in a 400 degree oven for 25-30 minutes.
Tips:
- For a crispier casserole, use frozen tater tots. If using fresh tater tots, pre-bake them for 15 minutes at 400°F before assembling the casserole.
- To make the nacho tater tot casserole ahead of time, assemble it and then cover it tightly with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for up to 24 hours. When ready to bake, let the casserole come to room temperature for 30 minutes before baking.
- If you don't have nacho cheese sauce, you can use a can of condensed cheddar cheese soup mixed with 1 cup of milk.
- For a spicy casserole, add a can of diced jalapenos to the nacho cheese sauce.
- To make the casserole vegetarian, use black beans or pinto beans instead of ground beef.
- Serve the casserole with your favorite toppings, such as sour cream, guacamole, salsa, or pico de gallo.
