Tips:

  • To ensure your sweet potatoes are cooked evenly, choose potatoes that are about the same size. If cooking several potatoes, place them in a single layer in the baking dish.
  • Pricking the potatoes with a fork before baking helps the steam escape and prevents them from bursting.
  • Rubbing the potatoes with oil or butter before baking gives them a crispy skin and helps them brown more evenly.
  • Use a variety of spices and herbs to flavor your sweet potatoes. Some popular options include cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, thyme, and rosemary.
  • If you're short on time, you can microwave your sweet potatoes instead of baking them. Just prick them with a fork and cook them on high for 5-7 minutes per potato, or until they are tender.

Conclusion:

Southern sweet potatoes are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed as a side dish, main course, or dessert. They are easy to make and can be flavored with a variety of spices and herbs to suit your taste. Whether you prefer them baked, mashed, fried, or candied, sweet potatoes are a healthy and satisfying addition to any meal.
