Tips:

  • Use fresh or frozen sour cherries for the best flavor. If using frozen cherries, thaw them before using.
  • Do not overmix the dough. Overmixing will make the scones tough.
  • Roll out the dough to a 1-inch thickness. If the dough is too thick, the scones will not cook evenly.
  • Cut the scones into 8 wedges. Cutting the scones into more wedges will help them cook more evenly.
  • Bake the scones in a preheated oven. This will help them rise and cook evenly.
  • Cool the scones on a wire rack before serving. This will help them to set and prevent them from becoming soggy.

Conclusion:

These buttermilk and sour cherry scones are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that are perfect for afternoon tea or picnics. The scones are light and fluffy, with a slightly tart flavor from the sour cherries. They are also very versatile, and can be served with a variety of toppings, such as butter, jam, or clotted cream.
