Time 30m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

One 12-inch loaf Italian bread
4 cloves garlic, peeled
1 stick salted butter, at room temperature
1/4 cup freshly chopped basil leaves
1/4 cup chopped flat-leaf parsley
1/4 cup grated Parmesan
1/4 cup grated mozzarella
Kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Slice the bread in half, lengthwise.
  • Add the garlic, herbs, butter, and Parmesan to the bowl of a food processor and pulse until well incorporated. Alternatively, you could fold the ingredients together using a rubber spatula.
  • Spread the butter mixture down the inner length of both slices of the bread. Wrap the pieces in aluminum foil and put them onto a sheet tray. Bake until the bread crisps up and the cheese melts, about 10 minutes. At this point, remove the foil, sprinkle the slices with the mozzarella cheese and season with salt and pepper, to taste. Slide the bread back into oven until the cheese bubbles, about 5 minutes. Remove the bread from the oven to a cutting board and slice before serving.

NIF'S CHEESY FRESH HERB AND GARLIC BREAD

Nif's Cheesy Fresh Herb and Garlic Bread image

I came up with this because I had some fresh herbs on hand and wanted to make garlic bread. This is what I got! You can also use a teaspoon of each kind of dried herbs if you don't have fresh, but it won't be quite the same. Also, use whatever cheese you have on hand - this is just what I had. I hope you like it. Enjoy!

Categories     Cheese

Time 30m

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 large loaf crusty bread
1/2 cup mayonnaise (I use half fat Hellmann's)
1/4 cup butter, room temperature
2 fresh garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, finely chopped
1 tablespoon fresh basil, finely chopped
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped
1 tablespoon green onion, thinly sliced
salt and pepper
1 cup low-fat cheddar cheese, grated
1/2 cup part-skim mozzarella cheese, grated
1/2 cup fresh parmesan cheese, grated

Steps:

  • Cut bread in half horizontally. Open loaf.
  • Mix mayo, butter, garlic, rosemary, basil, parsley, green onion, salt and pepper.
  • Mix cheeses together in a bowl. Put half of the cheese mixture in the mayo mixture and stir.
  • Spread half of the mayo mixture on each half of the loaf. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
  • I placed this over indirect heat in my BBQ for about 20 minutes, until heated through and the cheese was melted. I was cooking the steak on the other half of the BBQ so it was easy to keep an eye on it.
  • You could bake this in the oven at 350F, but I didn't want to list how long you would bake it for because I didn't make it that way. I would guess 15 minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose the right bread: A good quality bread is the foundation of a great garlic bread. Look for a bread that is crusty on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Avoid using a bread that is too dense or too light.
  • Use fresh herbs: Fresh herbs add a delicious flavor to garlic bread. Use a variety of herbs, such as basil, oregano, thyme, and rosemary. Chop the herbs finely before using them.
  • Don't skimp on the garlic: Garlic is the star of the show in garlic bread. Use plenty of garlic, both minced and roasted. You can also add garlic powder or garlic salt for an extra boost of flavor.
  • Use a good quality olive oil: Olive oil is the best oil to use for garlic bread. It has a rich flavor that complements the garlic and herbs. Avoid using vegetable oil or butter, as they will not give you the same flavor.
  • Bake the garlic bread until it is golden brown: Garlic bread should be baked until it is golden brown and crispy on the outside. This will give it a delicious flavor and texture.

Conclusion:

Garlic bread is a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that can be enjoyed with a variety of meals. By following these tips, you can make garlic bread that is sure to impress your friends and family. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy side dish, give garlic bread a try!
