OLD SOUTH AMBROSIA
Steps:
- Grate coconut in bowl. Add peeled and sectioned oranges; discard membrane and seeds. Add pineapple, fruit cocktail, apples, bananas, and nuts. Sweeten with sugar, being careful not to add too much as the syrup from the fruit is usually sufficient. Chill before serving. This dessert is pretty garnished with cherries and served in a crystal bowl.
AMBROSIA (OLD RECIPE)
Another recipe from the sixty's that I was given by my Home Economics teacher. There are lots of ambrosia recipes out there but I wanted to post the one I had from 1964. It is simple and easy to make and if you leave out the powdered sugar it is even on the healthy side.

Steps:
- 1. Cut the top from the orange and peel
- 2. Slice or dice the orange and mix with the shredded coconut
- 3. Sprinkle lightly with powdered sugar
- 4. (Optional)Pineapple chunks may be added (perhaps instead of the sugar)
- 5. CHILL in refrigerator. NOTE: The recipe actually says "Chill in the refrigerator if possible" -- LOL
Tips:
- Use fresh, ripe fruit. This will ensure that your ambrosia salad is flavorful and juicy.
- Cut the fruit into uniform pieces. This will help the salad to look more appealing and make it easier to eat.
- Don't overmix the salad. Ambrosia salad is best when the fruit is still slightly firm. Overmixing will make the fruit mushy.
- Chill the salad before serving. This will help the flavors to meld and make the salad more refreshing.
- Garnish the salad with fresh mint or whipped cream. This will add a touch of elegance and make the salad even more delicious.
Conclusion:
Ambrosia salad is a classic dessert that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make, delicious, and refreshing. With its sweet and tangy flavor, ambrosia salad is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you are looking for a dessert that will impress your guests, give ambrosia salad a try. You won't be disappointed.
